I remember what my older sister told to me.
¡ÈDon¡Çt be a dreamer, or you look stupid.¡É ¡ÈThe reality is severe.¡É
¡ÈYou cannot achieve your dream just like very few baseball players can be successful out of thousands of other players.¡É
Those words shocked me very much as if I was stabbed by those words.
When I was a Japanese university student, I never studied and spent purposeless time, a ¡Èmonotonous life.¡É
At that time, the word ¡Èdream¡É had nothing to do with my life,
and I even hated that word because I thought that only a genius or a talented person can actually talks about their dream.
Thinking back over that time, I probably just envy their ability.
At that time, I couldn¡Çt see the future. No, I actually knew what my life was going to be like.
I would get a job for a while. I would change my job after a while, and I would retire my job eventually.
I hated that kind of life that was already set in front of me.
But suddenly, I found NIC, NIC where people had a dream.
So, I quitted one of the so called best Japanese universities and came here, NIC.
NIC taught me the importance of having a dream.
Since I came here, I discovered that a lot of students already had a dream.
Even though no one guaranteed their success, they made an effort to make their dreams come true.
However, the more I talked to them, the more I felt pressured because they already had their concrete vision of their dreams and already begun to prepare for it.
But at the same time, they gave me confidence.
I was forced to recognize that I needed to have a dream.
I have been really happy to be in that environment.
Also, NIC gave me courage to try anything I want.
The reason why I came here was not only because I wanted to find my dream, but also I wanted to find what kind of job I really want to do in the future.
I tried a lot of things outside of class.
I was fortunate to appear on a TV commercial for NIC.
I have worked at the office, and I talked with a lot of friends who already graduated from NIC.
Even though I am still looking for what I want to do in my future,
I am learning what fits me and what doesn¡Çt fit me little by little through those experiences.
Therefore, I am really happy right now as I seek my profession.
That¡Çs why I want to say thank you with all my heart to everyone at NIC, staff, teachers, students, and friends, and of course to my parents for giving me an opportunity.
All of you helped me to know myself better.
Thanks to you, I started to think I want to make the world better by my hand, or I should say we can make the world better by our hands.
Even if I become an actor, an architect, or an astronaut, this is my dream and it will not be changed.
However, I cannot do it alone,
but if there are a thousand, a hundred thousand, a million of people who desire to make the world better, the world will be changed, right? Therefore, all of you attending to this ceremony, I need your help.
Now, let me ask you a question. What exactly should we do to make the world better? The answer is very simple.
Do what you want to do.
Ideally speaking, if there are only teachers who love to teach, education will be better. If there are only doctors who love to help people, medicine will be better.
It is the same for politicians, artists, sport player, and any professions will be better.
I think that a world and a society made of people who do what they truly like is ideal. My dream is that you will succeed in your dreams, so please do not give up on your dreams.
Am I dreaming too much? I don¡Çt think so.
Let¡Çs have a dream.
Astronaut, architect, actor, actress, dancer, singer, writer, hotel manager. Whatever you want to do, just do it, and let¡Çs just do it without thinking about fear or failure. And, we will make our dream come true and make the world better.
